The City of London is the historic and financial heart of London. It is also know as The City or The Square Mile. It is a city within a city, one of two, London's other city is the City of Westminster. The City of London is the largest business and financial centre in the world, the insurance industry is focused around the eastern side of the City, around Lloyd's building. As said the City of London is the financial centre of London, it houses the London Stock Exchange and about 500 offices of banks and insurance companies. It is even bigger than New York or Hong Kong. A secondary financial district exists outside of the City, at Canary Wharf two and a half miles (four kilometres) to the east.

The shopping streets and markets of the City of London
The shopping Ludgate Hill and around Monument tube station. On Sunday, most shops and restaurants in the City of London are closed except those in the new shopping center, One New Change, near St. Paul's Cathedral.
Leadenhall Market is a wonderful covered market (from the 14th century) in the heart of the City of London. During the week around lunch it is very busy as the staff from the nearby offices have their lunch break. The beautiful roof dates from the 19th century.
There are currently about 60 shops and restaurants in this upscale mall. Jamie Oliver has a grill restaurant here Barbecoa and Gordon Ramsay has a bar and restaurant called Bread Street Kitchen. One New Change is open seven days a week.
